Yuichiro Fujimoto – Speaks Melodies Available Now! |

LISTEN:

Yuichiro Fujimoto “Street Pray”

Speaks Melodies presents small audio sketches, micro sound sculptures and poetic songs that are pulled directly from everyday life. Atmospheric street sounds from an open window mesh with acoustic instrumentation, digitally manipulated acoustic guitar, xylophone, pianos and voice. Although highly experimental, the feel is unassuming and light, though not overly precious. Songs create abstract expressionist swashes of mood made up of pieces of real world ingredients that are a refreshing approach to music making. Yuichiro’s sound is unique, fresh and raw, and almost zen-like in nature.

Yuichiro Fujimoto is an artist, musician, and photographer living in Urayasu, Japan. Speaks Melodies is his fourth album, including releases on Norway’s Smalltown Supersound, German label Ahornfelder, and this is his second release for Audio Dregs. The CD for Speaks Melodies comes in an eco-wallet package that contains a 16 page booklet of street photographs by Yuichiro and is designed by international design hero, Kim Hiorthøy.

Grapefruit – Grapefruit |

Grapefruit

Grapefruit “Phase Accidents”

Available now digitally! here // iTunes // Amazon

Grapefruit is the moniker of a Portland, Oregon synth composer, C. Salas-Humara, where we find him creating lush percolating brain cinema, analog computer dreamscapes, and progressive sci-fi psychedelia. Sometimes the trip is a relaxed and bucolic night drive, soaring across the desert sky as the golden suns melts into the horizon and on into the calm dark of night. Other times Grapefruit is a dense scramble through a frenzied maze, burning an urban landscape into circuit board and riding the circuits until they bleed.

Previously Salas-Humara has performed in Portland luminaries as The Planet The (5RC), Panther (Kill Rock Stars, Fryk Beat), and Sun Angle. After a brief experience with time travel he has returned to us with a new sense of focus. Zoning in on synthetic music making, and pushing the limits of emotional technology we see yet another side of his rich musical output.

“Gorgeous waves of oscillation initially come on like a time capsule of minimalism; a call and response to Spiegel and Riley – after sounding for all the world like a lost section of Vangelis’ Bladerunner score” -20 Jazz Funk Greats

Still available on cassette from Field Hymns!

My First 3D (group show) |

clickMonday April 1, 7pm
MY FIRST 3D
Assembled by Ben Coonley.
MICROSCOPE GALLERY, Brooklyn, NY.
70 minute program. Admission $6.

Works by:
Trisha Baga, Jeremy Bailey, Peter Burr, Ben Coonley, Ian Cheng, James Fotopoulos, Dara Greenwald, Adam Khalil, Monica Kogler & Rose Mori, Sara Ludy, Thomas Martinez, Yvonne Martinez, Eric W Mast, Brenna Murphy, Tara Mateik, Sabrina Ratté, Billy Rennekamp, Yoshi Sodeoka, JD Walsh and more

Microscope Gallery welcomes Ben Coonley back to the space to present an April Fools Day screening of over a dozen artists’ first attempts at using stereoscopic 3D video and/or 3D animation software. Stereoscopic video, which requires the audience to wear special glasses to create binocular impressions of depth, is different than 3D animation, the process used to create movies like “Wall-E”, in which computer-generated objects are manipulated in a virtual 3D production environment.

In creating either stereoscopic 3D video or 3D animation artists are forced to contend with complicated physical and optical laws as well as novel technical demands. These conditions occasionally require or inspire desperate shortcuts and unruly cinematic visions.

“My First 3D” unites the two “3Ds” for a celebration of accidents, partially rendered visions, self-effacing illusions, the z-axis, red and cyan, the act of seeing with two eyes simultaneously, polygons, render time, techno-adolescence, and the thrill of doing it in deep space for the first time.

FS Blumm – Food |

F'S'BLUMM - FOOD (smaller)FS Blumm has a new album out!

F.S.BLUMM took a break from himself: no solo-release within 5 years (*). A break from his musical habits: consuming quasi nothing but female-hip-hop and rootsy-dub. No pling, no plong, no guitar-picking. Now he slowly returns, warming up his fingers with a little collection of instrumentals. Solo jam-sessions to the recording-machine. This is not the succession of F.S.BLUMMs “Summer Kling”. One might miss those typically condensed compositions, those musical thoughts compressed in a nutshell. This is a special inbetweenie! A little snack, some eardrum refreshment! ..and isn’t there indeed a little hip-hop-flavour left? Can’t one still imagine a female rapper on top of “FRÜH” or “KLEI”? Please enjoy this convenient collection of recordings while you’re waiting for Blumm’s little big next album: “F.S.BLUMM- The King Of Pling” PLEASE DONATE! THANKS!!

(*) ..lots of collaborative releases though, with Bobby Baby, Old Splendifolia, the QDD, Nils Frahm, David Grubbs, Anne Laplantine, Lucrecia Dalt and a split-tape with Bradien

P.S.: The “FOOD”-photo was done by F.S.BLUMM during a west-coast-tour with E*Rock and Greg Davis on their way to Las Vegas at the entrance of the Mojave Desert.
