2004/2005: AUDIO DREGS?

I don't really have a mission statement prepared, but I thought this quote I read yesterday summed up some nice things about music and life. I mean, I'm not sure there's much point in differentiating between life and music or art at this point. Certain truths come to the surface in all whatever you do. We just try and keep it constructive and positive and keep moving forward.

"Smallness can bring forth great things ...Free from the pressure of legitimation and achievment, sometimes they even succeed in making the impossible even more impossible. Only machines that are not involved in the excercise of power can afford to develop insatabilities, to step out of line, to disappoint some expectations and satsify others that have not yet been articulated...

Ultimately, art does not need to be useful to the whole. It is useful to the one or other individual and remains at the vibrating boundry between the tow. Thus, it will always have to do with small machines."

-Siegfried Zielinski

2003: AUDIO DREGS?

Audio Dregs is our record label.

We just want to make cool things.
We release our own music as well as music that we enjoy and want to share with others, especially unique an beautiful music that might not get released otherwise.

It is run by me (E*Rock) and my brother (E*Vax).

Audio Dregs is more than just our record label though. It is the art of our collected artists, graphics, publishing endeavors, fashion, events and sounds.

We put a lof of effort into the web site as more than just an informational site for the label and treat the web as it's own medium. I think a large percentage of people that visit this site come just for the variety of content, to watch the animations, see the art and design and get some visual stimulus. This is perfectly fine with us. Web sites are the zine of the new millennium, only can reach more people more immediatly with a greater output.

We also publish a print magazine called Thumb, some of which is available as raw interviews on this site.

Hopefully that's all the information that you need.
Like I said we just want to make cool things.

thanks,
E*Rock (4/12/03)

It's been a while since I updated the old "mission statement" page , though not for a lack of smart-ass comments for sure. We're still making music and releasing what we like, with slight variations on how we do things as we grow. 2002 promises to have lots of full new length releases by new and old ADR artists from Portland and all over the world as well. We're focusing more on full length CDs as it seems the bst thing for the artists to develop and we're also attempting in increase in the ADR design presence in our releases. We promise to have some new features for the web site too in ther near future.

thanks,
E*Rock & E*Vax

p.s. Thanks to Wyn for representin' Audio Dregs in the school photo.

having e*vax on board of directors here at ADR certainly has helped kick things up a notch or two. but a new year arrives and a new objective is born so e*vax has again relocated. following the release of his first full length album on AUDIO DREGS e*vax returns east to brooklyn, new york to spearhead the eastcoast branch of ADR.

"putting out music that we love is great, as well as all the fine art, animation, graphics and things that AUDIO DREGS site encompases, but isn't our true love money?"

"yes, money, i love money!"

"let us use adr as a vehicle to produce lots of money then. we will increase our presence through a new global advertising campaign."

"...and then we will buy solid gold cowboy hats as an outward sign of our finanial success!"

"very well then, i will travel east and setup HQ#2 to gain a new vantage point."

"lightspeed!"

best regards,

having recently moved to portland, e*vax has joined the ranks of adr. many board meetings have begun. plans are being implemented. it seemed natural for e*vax to join; we work together well, we get along well, we share similar tastes and aesthetics in producing music and art--oh yes, we're also brothers, so we've known each other since way back! adr is still a vehicle for experimenting, producing, and releasing music as well as a vehicle for animation and visuals--and now it is run by two...

I figured it was about time to update the this here mission statement, although not much has changed. ADR is still basicly me doing my thing, releasing music that I find interesting, not really fitting in with any particular scene--which is half the fun. There's more room to explore when you draw your own boundaries, and there's still always a lot to learn.

sincerely,

Life's pretty funny. People change, move away then stay the same. Someone you were close to will be across town and not talk to you anymore--loss of communication, and yet one person in Spain, Germany, the opposite coast or across town is listening. Music is a funny way to communicate often abstract ideas to people you don't know, and that may never meet, but you never know--just might get something worth while out of a simple song.

A record label is basicly someone who replicates--sound and information. Nothing to it really, but hopefully more than that. I've tried to experience music from as many different angles as possible: from passive listener, music creation, recording, producing, manufacturing, record label, retail sales clerk, back to consumer, collector, rock critic, DJ, sample bandit... passing on pieces of audio information as well as absorbing them. It's one way to learn.

Tiny bits of audio information, that would often never again make it to audible sound source, can regenerate into something concrete. Even if you don't get anything out of it, hopefully you enjoyed yourself. Even in the off chance that you didn't enjoy the passing sound: I'm not afraid to admit that I did ADR for myself, which is quite enough really. Let's kick some art then.

This isn't really a history, as I'm sure you've noticed by now, but hey...
