Yuichiro Fujimoto is a Japanese who is interested in the space
and domestic objects sounds, textures, and its minimal expression with
delicate and almost childish melodies. He's first album ‘Komorebi’
was released on Norway's STSS imprint but caught the attention by
Smalltown Supersound's designer and artist Kim Hiorthoy. His second and
debut album on Audio Dregs titled "Kinoe" is comprised by subtle
and delicate sounds, although this isn't obvious in the proposal of this
young Japanese artist, but the listener must pay attention to the details
and micro sounds.
Fujimoto's music lays in the electronic Japanese music in the likes of
Sketch Show, Fonica or Ogurusu Norihide. More info. at www.audiodregs.com

Every subtle sounds taken from instruments, objects, field recordings
are differents parts that you put them together. What common element join
them?
"First of all, I just like listening many kinds of sounds recorded
and unrecorded. And I like accidental things too. For example, I'm walking
street, I can hear bird sings, cars, girls talking, some music... Those
sounds mix is changing and changing with my walking. Sometimes I meet
[I think it is 'meet'] special good sounds for me. I smile and listen
well. I hope I make music with that feeling. It's not so difficult, it's
fun."
On 'Morning dance' there is a TV on making some noise. What roll plays
sound space in your music?
"It's not so special roll plays. When I recorded room sounds [with
tablewares], I turned on TV, so that's play a cartoon. That's all connected
I think."
Really peculiar is the sound of a pencil scratching over a piece of paper
on 'Without mabutaki' like as someone is drawing. Could you please tell
us about this track and what does it means mabutaki?
"The sounds of pencils by my mother. She is writing the picture letters
to her Mother [my Grandmother] everyday. That's really everyday! the daily
mailings is continued for about 10 years. So she is drawing some pictures
everyday, I like its. I recorded it by her, sounds is coloring. Mabataki
is japanese means wink."
Do you have other activities that complement your work as a musician?
"I think I'm not as a musician. I can not play the instruments well.
But I like taking pictures and drawings. Music is not only one thing for
me. And of course that ‘just listening’ is important for me."
It seems that traditional Japanese folk is an important influence in your
music?
"Sometimes I received like this question. But I 'm not so much influenced
from Japanese traditional folk music. I like Japanese 'MA [space]' and
'HIBIKI [echos]'. It's important. But that's from not only from music,
from pictures, lifestyles and others. If you feel the relation with Japanese
traditional and my music, I think It's ok."
